Penal Code 288(a) PC in California specifically addresses oral copulation with a child who is under the age of 14. This section of the law makes it a criminal offense to engage in any oral-genital or oral-anal contact with a child. The penalties for violating Penal Code 288(a) PC are severe and can include imprisonment and mandatory registration as a sex offender. The law is designed to protect minors from sexual exploitation and abuse
Penal Code 288a PC prohibits oral copulation with a minor under the age of 18. Oral copulation as defined as any contact, no matter how slight, between the mouth of one person and the sexual organ or anus of another person.
It should be noted that on January 1, 2019, Section 288a was renumbered and is now codified in California Penal Code 287 The law itself has not changed, and the penalties remain the same. Presumably, lawmakers pressed for the renumbering because people were confusing PC 288a with the entirely different crime of PC 288(a).
